Food and water:
Puppy food: Choose a high-quality puppy food that’s appropriate for your puppy’s breed and size. Your vet or breeder should be able to help if you’re uncertain. (For WSAVA compliant food, I like the Blue Buffalo Puppy Food. For higher quality food, Orijen makes a good regular puppy food and large breed puppy food. For budget food, I love the Diamond Naturals puppy line and their large breed puppy line)

Supplements: You may wish to use supplements like Suregrow or other puppy formulas like Zesty Paws

Food and water bowls: Make sure your bowls are heavy enough that the puppy won’t knock them over and that they’re an appropriate size. If you have a bearded breed, you’ll want something like a Slopper Stopper to help prevent gross beards and ponds from forming in your home. I personally recommend slow feeders or puzzle feeders, especially for puppies. (Here’s an article on the best ones)

Crate: Crate training can help with potty training and provide your puppy with a safe and secure space. Choose a crate that’s the right size for your puppy, do not get an oversized one. The bigger the crate, the more room for naughty things.

Enzymes cleaner: Accidents happen! Choose a good enzymatic cleaner like this one to remove pet stains and odors thoroughly.

Shampoo and conditioner: Choose a gentle shampoo and conditioner that’s made for puppies. I love the Burts Bees line

Brushes and combs: The type of grooming supplies you’ll need will depend on your puppy’s coat type. Ask your breeder or groomer for recommendations. For most puppies, a grooming tools kit is going to be adequate.

Nail clippers or Dremel: Regular nail trims are important to prevent your puppy’s nails from getting too long and to keep them comfortable with the process. Name-brand Dremel has a wonderful pet line.

Leash and collar: Choose a leash and collar that’s the right size and comfortable for your puppy.

ID tag and microchip: An ID tag with your contact information and a microchip are essential for ensuring your puppy can be returned to you if they get lost.

Toys: Puppies love to play! Provide a variety of toys to keep them entertained and mentally stimulated.

Chew toys: Chewing is a natural puppy behavior that helps relieve teething pain and keep them calm. Provide safe and appropriate chew toys to prevent your puppy from chewing on your furniture, or even you!

Treats: Treats can be a helpful training tool and a fun way to bond with your puppy. Choose healthy treats that are appropriate for their size and age. Find what is high value to them. Don’t forget edible chews! (Check out the top 5 treat pouches on Amazon!)

Poop bags and dispenser: Always clean up after your puppy on walks. We shouldn’t have to say that, but the state of our parks tells us we do!

Baby gates: Baby gates can help you block off certain areas of your home to keep your puppy safe. We recommend one like this, not a mesh one, as that’s just temptation for puppy to chew!

Playpen: A playpen can be a great way to confine your puppy in a safe and secure space when you can’t supervise them directly. This one is a great option for growing puppies!

Bedding: Provide your puppy with a soft and comfortable bed to sleep in and a blanket to burrow in IF they don’t try to shred them! These things can create a blockage hazard.

Remember, this is just a starting point. The specific supplies you’ll need will vary depending on your puppy’s breed, age, and individual needs.
