The Imperfect Dog Trainer: Learning and Growing Together

There’s a certain pressure that comes with being an experienced trainer. You’re expected to have all the answers, to possess an infinite well of knowledge and expertise. But the truth is, no one knows everything, and trainers are no exception. There is even extra pressure on those returning to the public eye after a hiatus, like myself.

While I have a solid foundation of experience and knowledge, I’m stepping back into the spotlight as an imperfect trainer and handler who is, as always, eager to do and learn more. My expertise lies in certain areas like puppy raising and service dogs, but I’m also actively expanding my knowledge base and updating my understanding of the ever evolving world of dog training in new areas I’d never considered before.

This journey won’t be without its stumbles. There will be moments when I don’t have the immediate answer, when I’ll need to dig deeer, learn new things, and perhaps even admit that I don’t know something. But instead of shying away from these imperfections, I’m choosing to embrace them.

Why? Because authenticity and vulnerability are powerful tools in the training world. By acknowledging that I’m still learning and growing as a handler and trainer, I create a space where others can do the same and maybe we all learn some things along the way.

So, feel free to join me on this journey of exploration and growth. I’ll be sharing my knowledge, insights, and experiences, both the successes and the stumbles. It won’t always be a perfectly polished performance, but it will be real, it will be honest, and it will be an opportunity for growth.
